God’s Authentic Covenant in Christ

The new covenant is a display of the love and compassion that God and His Son have for mankind. John 3:16 tells us that God loved us so much that He gave us His Son. Philippians chapter 2 tells us that the Son was willing to leave His heavenly place and humble Himself on our behalf.
Man desperately needed deliverance from his sin. The covenant that was in effect at the time of Christ’s coming (Mosaic covenant) demanded that the law was kept (which no one was able to do) and sacrificial offerings that did not abolish man’s sin.
Christ’s sacrifice ushered in an authentic (trustworthy) covenant whereby man is justified by faith in Christ. His blood does not merely cover sin, but through it man’s sins are forgiven. Therefore, the animal sacrifices are no longer necessary and we do not need a priest to make sacrifices for us. We have direct access to God through Jesus Christ.
“For we have not a high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:15-16 KJV
The scriptures also tell us that the new covenant of which Christ is the mediator is a better covenant.
“But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant” Hebrews 8:6a,b
What makes this covenant better? Two prominent reasons…
This covenant is Unconditional…
It does not require us to keep laws that we are incapable of keeping. The law was designed only to show us (make us aware of) our sin. The scripture points this out in Romans 3:20:
“Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.” KJV
This covenant is Everlasting…
It will never be changed or revoked:
“Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant” Hebrews 13:20 KJV
Christ did everything for us. We need not live in fear of failing to measure up. We can rely on this covenant because we can trust the Maker; He cannot lie.³
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16
Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Philippians 2:6-8
In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began; Titus 1:2
